PADANG, Indonesia: A solid 6.2-greatness quake struck off the shore of western Indonesia early Friday, US seismologists stated, however no wave cautioning was issued and there were no prompt reports of setbacks or harm.
The shake hit the Mentawai islands in West Sumatra region around 75 kilometers (46 miles) southwest of the common capital Padang at 00:06 am (1706 GMT), at a profundity of 49 kilometers, as indicated by the US Geological Survey.
The catastrophe organization said authorities were checking for harm and losses.
John Nedy, an inhabitant of Padang, said individuals fled their homes when the tremor struck, and most were hesitant to return until further notice.
"The earth shudder was exceptionally solid. A few people say it's protected now to backpedal to our homes, yet a great many people are as yet anxious," Nedy told AFP.
